Travel Information
Lunteren is a small town located in the center of the Netherlands close to Amersfoort, and Utrecht. You can travel to Lunteren by Car or Train.
✈️Schiphol International Airport is the closest airport for those traveling by air to the Netherlands. There is a train station directly inside Schiphol airport. You can then take a train to Amersfoort, and then you can change trains and take a local train to Lunteren where a taxi or free hotel shuttle can take you to the venue.
🚆Train The Netherlands has a well connected rail network with a station in Lunteren near the venue. If you choose to take the train (including the interntational train from Germany) you need to go to Amersfoort and board a local train to Lunteren. You can find more about the train schedules and order your ticket online here https://www.ns.nl/en.
The Lunterse Boer is located about 1,7 kilometers from the train station. There are several ways to get to the venue.
You can request a free hotel shuttle bus from the station to the venue by sending an email to receptie@lunterseboer.nl with your arrival information.
It is also possible to order a taxi from Lunteren Station. The easiest way to do that is to email receptie@lunterseboer.nl and ask them to reserve a taxi for you.
You can take a taxi from the station Ede/Wageningen located about 20 Kilometers from Lunteren. If you choose to take a taxi from there, you do not have to reserve in advance. You will find taxi’s waiting at the taxi stand next to the Station.
🚘 Car If you arrive by car, you can find directions via Google Maps. There is free parking in front of the hotel.
We will send more detailed travel information as we get closer to June.
General Information about the Netherlands
Getting Around
Public transport The country has great public transport. There are trains, and buses between cities. In larger cities trams, buses and metros operate and in small towns there are buses. You can buy tickets or even use a debit or credit card directly to pay for your ride.
Taxi’s operate from larger train stations in cities. Uber and Bolt are also active in the Netherlands, should you want to use them.
Driving There is a well-connected highway system. There are no toll roads in the Netherlands. Please be careful as there are many places to get caught speeding, with cameras. You can find more information about driving here.
Cycling is a major form of transportation in the Netherlands. There are often special cycle lanes. There are all sorts of bicycles including racing bikes, normal bikes, and a variety of electric bikes. If you are thinking of biking in a large city, please read this first.
Walking The Netherlands is a great walking country. It is quite flat, and easy to navigate. The sidewalks in cities tend to be good. There are often sign posted routes in nature reserves and other natural areas. In cities pay special attention to watch out for bicycles and trams. You can recognize bicycle paths by their red pavement.
Payments
The country is moving increasingly toward a cashless system. Many places in cities ask you to pay by direct debit - preferably maestro cards - or by credit card. Stores don’t accept traveler’s checks or any form of check.
Weather
The weather here can be very unpredictable. Check the forecast online for places you will be visiting before packing. It can be cold, warm, hot, wet, dry, all in the same day. Daytime temperatures can vary between 15 and 35 degrees centigrade at this time of year.
Local Customs
Speaking English All over the Netherlands you will find people who speak English. It may be nice to know at least one Dutch phrase: “Dankjewel” which means thank you.
Direct Communication You might notice that people communicate more directly than you may be used to. For example, if you ask someone if they like your hair they may just say, “no it looks bad.” This is seen as a form of honest and respectful communication and is not meant to offend. In all cases, a smile will get you a long way.
Sunday Opening Times While in most larger cities in the Netherlands stores are open 7 days a week. Lunteren is part of a region where people hold to religious customs, especially when it comes to taking rest on Sunday. If you arrive in Lunteren on Sunday, you will not find stores open, so if you need to buy something, do that either in Amersfoort or anywhere else along the way. Every other day stores are open.
Wildlife
Ticks Our venue is in a lovely natural area, with lots of forest and green space that are easy to go to. However, please know that there are ticks in the Netherlands so it is good to take precautions. You can find more information about tick safety here.
Wolves After many years and a lot of conservation efforts, wolves are returning to the Netherlands. This is great, however, it is good to be aware of that when walking in the Woods. There have been wolves sighted in the general area of Lunteren. Wolves are smart animals, and they are not likely to approach humans. But just in case:
Stay calm
Keep your distance
Give the wolf space
Do not approach or chase after them.
If a wolf approaches you, make yourself as big as you can and make a lot of noise to scare it away.
